MN Restaurant Week 2013: Feb 24 - March 1

It's that time of the year! Where you dress up, wear your "I look like I'm pregnant" shirt/dress and you chow down for the entire night all for $30 + tax/tip or $20 depending on the restaurant.

I love restaurant week because of its opportunity to try all the 'fancy restaurants' without the hefty prices. Granted, the food could taste different because so many new diners come in for this week long deal, but if restaurants were smart, they know they could easily lure in their potential loyal customers. The price of loyalty, right?

This entry is just a preview of some of the restaurants I have gone in the past, nothing real thorough. If anything, you should let me know about your experience and recommend or don't recommend me some places.

Now... for the folks who has never heard of this or have the slightest clue on "restaurant week", here is a FAQ I made up in my head.

Q: First off, what is the Twin Cities' restaurant week?
A: Restaurant week is a week of local metropolitan area (Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding suburbs) restaurants that has a set menu of food for a set price (lunch or dinner) sponsored by the Mpls-St. Paul Magazine.

That's simply put. There are a variety of restaurants and cuisines you must try and lunch and dinner prices vary.

Q: Where are these restaurants?
A: It is located in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surround suburbs.

Q: How does it work?
A: Normally, you should reserve at the restaurant that is participating in Restaurant Week.

Some of the fancier ones in Minneapolis would require a reservation days ahead and if you're a careful planner, you'd mention it was for restaurant week. Otherwise, you could TRY to be seated and just ask your lovely waiter or waitress for the restaurant week menu.

Q: Dress code?
A: Look at the restaurant's website and see their attire requirements or setting.

Q: Where to eat first?
A: I would recommend eating at Fogo De Chao only because it's one of the better deals for Restaurant Week. It's $30 + tax/tip and you get a dessert as well. Make sure you ask them how they are doing the dessert. One time, we had to share desserts and that was interesting. PARKING WILL NOT BE FUN!

It's really up to you on where to go. Restaurants that you've been staring from afar like the food gawker you are... go there!

Q: When did I start restaurant week? Or even hear about it?
A: About ... three years ago I went to restaurant week with some friends back in college. So Spring or Summer 2010. And I've gone to EVERY one of the seasons since then. I kept hearing about Fogo De Chao and so many other nice restaurants and randomly I stumbled on the msp website and... found restaurant week.

Q: My first restaurant week experience?
A: It was going to Fogo De Chao. I made reservations for 7 and it was a jolly ol' good time. From the start,

Must order drink (AT LEAST ONCE). It helps with the constant stuffing of protein. It's essentially a Brazilian pop as they described. $3 for this soda.
Pro. You gotta watch 'em bring the meat, take plates away, and just make your  eating experience like an entertaining nom fest.
Poppers are SO DELICIOUS. Best bread like substance you could seriously pop them into your mouth like a drug! A wonderfully tasty piece of fluffy goodness. It is UNLIMITED. So are the other silver plates. The mash potato is the perfect complement to the meats.
Graveyards. It's everywhere at Fogo.

Some of their desserts including cream brulee and NY Style Cheese. Huge  portions and normally we see the cakes being half eaten because it's SO RICH!

You get these coasters that has two sides: green and red. Green means GO! You get more meat like the carnivore you are.
Red means NO! No more meat, let me recover from the ones I had before.
Rookie mistake. Most expensive dessert is just yogurt essentially. "Papaya cream"

Clearly my face was in an eternal bliss with desserts and someone trying to steal it all away!

-------------------------------------------------

Previous Restaurant Week Adventures:

I probably went to Fogo at least five times in the past three years with different groups of people. Friends, family, coworkers etc. Over the seasons, the meat has gotten saltier in my opinion (or I can't take as much salt as before). So it's always nice to eat the meat first (Do not salad bar first! That is a sucker's move. - Kidding) and go after the salad bar next. They have such a nice variety of unique servings such as mushrooms, apple salad, and my favorite sweet tangy peppers, that I don't remember.

Sebastian Joe's for MORE dessert. Round II.

Probably one of the best deals aside from Fogo, where the dinner is $15 and you get all three courses.
Located in Loring Park. Very casual and still a nice meal to eat considering the sculpture park is close.

One of my favorite dates <3

Coconut flan. BEST DESSERT EVER. I am serious. Hands down. Best flan ever! It's sad they don't even serve it during restaurant week much alone their restaurant :(

Going here for lunch was one of the better deals on the list. You get salad, soup and a half sandwich, as well as a small dessert. It was a good portion lunch and it tasted a little refine for my usual lunch.

Other restaurants:
and a few others

Either I don't have the photos or I don't remember I put it on my computer for the other places.

I cannot wait for 2013 Restaurant Weeks!

If you have a recommended or unrecommendation for places, post post! Or even let me know about your experiences at other restaurants. I'd love to hear it! :)

Fashion: Websites for the Men

What's better? A guy who can pull off cheap clothes and make it look good or clothes that makes him look good? Technically that's a stupid question since it should be whatever makes him feel good, that counts :)

I always wondered where guys get their clothes. My pretty brother doesn't count, but it's good to know what's out there! It's fun to go shopping. Though, it's pretty nice when guys ask for your opinion at times. So when guys go clothes shopping, they know what works for them.

Here are some websites, that I find pretty snazzy. Where do guys buy their clothes anyways?

                                                    --------------------------------------

"$20 jeans"

http://20jeans.com/

would be the FIRST thing to catch my attention. (Technically it's +$5.00 for shipping) I didn't know jeans could look good and be that inexpensive. Any guys had any experienced with this website?

Great deal, in my opinion. And it's not just the typical hipster look (nothing wrong with that!) The problem is will it look and make you feel good?

--------------------------------------

"Streetwear Marketplace"

You know how there's Gilt, ideeli, and all those other weekly sale brand names? That's Jack's Thread. Except for guys.

--------------------------------------

"Streetwear Baazar"

If you're into street wear, this is a great website for all streetwear brands and deals. Depending on what you are looking for, some of the clothes, shoes, outer wear, etc could be real expensive. Though the discounts can compensate sometimes. More of an underground of brands that a handful would appreciate.

--------------------------------------

"Stylish Asian"

What's better than clothes that is stylish? Ones that are made for Asians! I'm sure there are a few struggles to find fitted clothes in the American size - like you gotta find an XS in Men to get something that flatters you. Instead this place has you in 'normal' clothes sizes so it fits you!

Some of the brands are a bit costly.

--------------------------------------

"Casual American"

Simple enough to look comfortable, but fashionable.

--------------------------------------

Might as well take a look at what's the trend in the American mainstream. But for the love of all that is reasonable and wallet safety, I do not recommend paying $40 for a shirt :(.

--------------------------------------

"Expensively Modern"

http://www.revolveclothing.com/

I went from cheap ish to now being ridiculously expensive. Brand names are in on this website. Marc Jacobs, 7 for all Mankind, and so much more. It's hard to justify paying $100 for jeans or anything that expensive for something simple. Might as well be aware of the names!

--------------------------------------

In the end, who doesn't like a well-dressed man? Whether he is wearing a black blazer with a white button up (top two buttons are unbutton of course!) or the classic look of a white tee and denim jeans, confidence is ALWAYS the best kind of attire.

Recap: Concerts of 2012

Normally I post all my events - big or small on Facebook, but I am without that social networking tool so I will post it here for now.

For this past year, my concert buddy and I have been hitting up concerts after concerts.

February 20, 2012 - Young the Giant at First Avenue:
It started with Young the Giant at First Avenue. Sold out concert! I remember weeks before the concert hearing "Cough Syrup" playing on the radio 96.3 and the Current then being a hipster stating, "Oh, I've been hearing this!" and continued with my head knockin' and 'awesome' singing (angels would have been jealous lol) Next thing you know, Glee plays it on their show. What a hit!

Our dinner was the best. All four of us, being efficient that we are, got Rock Star parking (yeah, I didn't know that's what they called Handicap parking) and ate at Jimmy John's right before the show, located around the corner. It was the perfect sustaining source of energy for a concert that was a dance work out - at least for me :)

Here are some awesome photos:
Yes, it's my hand. I wanted something artistic!

Photo courtesy of Lucy and myself.

Also Walk the Moon was pretty dance awesome. Go go: http://walkthemoonband.com/

                                                         --------------------------------------------

May 12, 2012 - St. Vincent at First Avenue:
St. Vincent. Eclectic. Eccentric. Electrifying! A concert that was mellow, but rockin'. Guess what? It was sold out! The crowd was so large and we are pretty lazy people so we were able to sit upstairs like RIGHT beside the stage. It was hard to watch unless you were angled perfectly to avoid the giant speaker and whenever she moved.

Awesomely random: Ate at Saffron and it is a must-go! You have not had Moroccan food till you tried some from here. Lamb brains are deeeelicious. I would eat it again... because... I wish to be a smart lamb ;) actually they're not smart if they're dead and we're munching on them.... ANYWAYS PICTURES

Electrifying. YES! She jumps into the crowd and SURVIVES!

Saffron

We're in downtown. What'daja expect?!

Scalpers were useful. Go Craigslist!

                                                         --------------------------------------------

June 18, 201 - Anberlin at The Varsity:

It was a Monday night concert. This was different for me. But acoustic Anberlin? COUNT ME IN! This is my first acoustic concert and not my last. They played classics like Paperthin Hymns, Never Take Friendship Personal, Day Late Friend and more. Loveddd it! The crowd was not as rowdy and for once it felt relaxed -- as relaxed as a concert could get. Plus I liked the meter parking. Not a hassle.

It was a beautiful stage set-up - very jelly fishy-esque. I thought I should be at sea ... with whales singing along.

Mr. Christian sang like an angel. Well that sounds odd, but it wasn't that angelic, it was a calm voice to sway with friends. The opening bands were great considering Anberlin even sang together. I forgot their names :(

Overall, go to an acoustic concert and CHILL.

                                                         --------------------------------------------

August 10, 2012 - Coldplay at Xcel:
Most spur of the moment concert event ever! Originally we were suppose to go to Meiko's concert, but... last minute "Hey.... Coldplay is playing at the Xcel. Want to go to that instead?" after a minute of rambling on about how we still love Meiko, but this is COLDPLAY.

Xcel Center did a great job hosting them here in MN. It was like a GIANT BIRTHDAY PARTY! There were lights FLASHING and BLASTING - think fire flies with colors and not as smelly if they were killed. I still kept my band too, though it's useless outside the concert. Looks like I'm some sort of Power Ranger with their obscure colors. Well, enjoy the goodness.

Lasers, confetti (CONSTANTLY - it wasn't even 2013!), lights, screaming, GIANT BALLS BOUNCING! Who couldn't love dancing music and a fun time? I mean Coldplay played most of their classics such as Yellow, Paradise, Scientist, and more.

Another great concert. More spur of the moment. We even got inexpensive tickets with a GREAT view of the entire show. Couldn't ask for anything more! Though wished I had pizza and ice cream would be nice... :D

                                                         --------------------------------------------

September 14, 2012: Batman Live at the Xcel
This counts as a concert because... there's music. The costumes were just INTENSE. Chisel abs on ABS. An overall, okay show. I think in comparison to Cirque du Soleil, which I have not watched ever, it doesn't seem to be on par. It was entertaining enough for our group plus since it was nearly empty, we were able to move closer.

So the teeth you see? Those are PEOPLE! Flailing like crooked teeth they are.

THE CAR LOOKS SO COOL. Belongs at a Hot Import Night. Haaa just kidding!

Yes sir, I am wearing a Batman belt! Gotta sport the yellow, black and white!

September 22, 2012: Zelda Concert at the Orpheum:
The world of Hyrule has now been transformed into MUSIC FORM! Now let's venture into the goodness of an epic video game concert!

We braced ourselves before the concert... with foods from Solera. It was funny since it was NOT enough food. Tasty quality, but we could have downed two burgers, fries, and ice cream. Everyone was seemingly that hungry. I recommend the place for something different and in smaller portion. A tad bit on the expensive side, but how convenient was it that it was right next door to the concert.

Obligatory fangirl photo and date photo :)

There were THREE encores. Clapping was constant and the music was radiating. Almost as good as a Final Fantasy concert if not better! I loved the cinematics - gameplay from NES to N64, even the Wii! Music that spread from lullabies from the Ocarina to ending theme songs. Think Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past, Twilight Princess, and NES Classics. Also there were... cosplayers! But I got lazy and did not take their photos. It's a video game concert, you know you would see elf ears and princesses. Yes, these are my kinda concerts! Unfortunately I didn't dress up like them... just wore a fangirl jacket and sport a golden tote.

Would most definitely recommend going to a Zelda concert. It's a lot better than the Video Games Live one.

                                                         --------------------------------------------

October 1, 2012 - Grizzly Bear at First Avenue:
Grizzly Bear

Band from NY. I don't remember taking pictures here, but it was a concert that it was good. Another SOLD OUT ONE. Concert buddies know their stuff ;)

                                                         --------------------------------------------

November 2, 2012 - Allen Stone at Fine Line Cafe:
Allen Stone. Selah Sue and Tingsek

We came here originally for Selah Sue, but Allen Stone, the MAIN reason why people went was just ecstatic! It started with sexy singing from Selah - French by the way with amazing skin. Then it was flying and party soul tripping goodness with Mr. Stone and band.

Selah :)

Allen Stone

Great band! Give them a try for soulful listening.

                                                         --------------------------------------------

Finally the last concert of the year:
December 7, 2012: Final Fantasy Concert at the Akoo Theatre

First off, $25 for valet parking. SERIOUSLY. I guess I'm spoiled with $10-$12 valet parking in MPLS. Anyways, the concert was a blast! This was their 25th anniversary and our 3rd concert... or technically 4th. I just like their concerts. And they delivered! It was a gorgeous place to set-up a concert. Xmas Trees were HUGE and plenty. There was even a photobooth! How awesome and fun!

I only know awesome people. Also some creepy ones. But mostly awesome!

Attractive faces meet even more attractive ones.

                                                         --------------------------------------------

Shoot, I forgot there was ANOTHER concert. This is the VERY last one.

December 29, 2012: Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Xcel Center

THIS CONCERT WAS THE BEST NON-DANCING ROCK CONCERT EVER! I was just SO sad no one moved! Maybe everyone else around me thought I had ADHD because you gotta jam to some electric guitar and Xmas music.

My failed attempt at a group photo.

PACKED! Unlike Batman's...

TOWERS where the GUITAR GODS WERE RAGING AND RAVAGING!

Epic lights.

<3

A wonderful ending a year worth of concerts.

                                                         --------------------------------------------

Now... gotta find some more concerts for 2013! Yay!

EDC, Summer Set, Sound Set, Wrap Tour, Basilica Block Party?! Who knows... :)
